Berchtesgaden National Park

Unique in the German Alps
The Berchtesgaden National Park stretches over 210 square kilometres. It is Germany's only Alpine national park. Here, you can experience pristine countryside, observe Alpine wildlife up close and discover some of the regions rare plants.

More or less all of central Europe's vegetation zones are in the Berchtesgaden National Park. This means you'll have the unforgettable experience of seeing a tremendous amount of flora and fauna. Whether you choose to come to the park wearing hiking boots or positioned squarely on a mountain bike saddle, memories of visiting the Berchtesgaden National Park will never leave you.

A 230 kilometre-long network of hiking trails awaits you in the Berchtesgaden National Park, and there is so much to discover! No other place in Germany has completely surrendered to nature. This means it is quite possible to observe otherwise shy Alpine animals, such as marmots, in their natural habitats on one of the numerous possible hiking trails.

In summer in the Berchtesgaden National Park, you will find various manned shacks and mountain inns – perfect for taking a break in the sun and having a little something before setting off back again.

If you want to know the Berchtesgaden National Park inside out, you should take part in one of the many guided themed hikes. National park employees will guide you through the pristine countryside and pass on their knowledge of numerous interesting topics.

It doesn't matter whether you've enlisted the expertise of a national park ranger or whether you're hot on the trail of marmots – on all hikes, you should ensure you are wearing suitable clothing and footwear. Plus, don't forget to pack plenty of fluids!
