The 'Almabtrieb' and the harvest festival in autumn are followed by the Kramperllauf – a Bavarian and Austrian tradition in which revellers dress up as Krampus, a horned beast which punishes naughty children at Christmas, and walk through the town – and the Buttnmandllauf, the equivalent event in the Berchtesgaden area. The festive period is then welcomed by the 'Weihnachtsschiessen' on 17th December.
