Mountain hike to Hohes Brett

The mountain hile to the Hohes Brett is a relatively lonely classic not far from the Jenner. Several mountain inns and huts along the way invite you to stop for a bite to eat.
The normal route to the Hohe Brett leads in a demanding hike over the Jenner and the Carl von Stahl Haus at the Torrener Joch.
Up to the Jenner it is a relatively easy mountain hike, the transition to the Hohe Brett is a quite demanding mountain tour with easy, wire-rope secured rock passages.

The ascent can be shortened considerably with the Jennerbahn cable car. If you start at the top station at the Jennerbahn cable cart the summit of the Hohe Brett can be reached in about 2 hours.

Kneifelspitze Berchtesgaden

An easy hike with a unique view

The hike to the Kneifelspitze is a must for every Berchtesgaden vacationer. Due to the detached location, you have a unique panoramic view of the Watzmann and the other mountains around the Berchtesgaden valley from the summit of the Kneifelspitze.

In Maria Gern, the marked AV trail 15, the Kneifelspitzweg, leads very steeply between the pilgrimage church and the Maria Gern inn to the parking lot below the Lauchlehen. At the first bend, the hiking trail to the Marxenhöhe branches off to the right. The variant over the Marxenhöhe rewards the approximately 10-minute detour with a fantastic view of the Berchtesgaden valley from the vantage point.

Passing farmhouses, the trail leads uphill along the left edge of the meadow into the forest. At the end of the path, steep serpentines lead to the junction of the road leading up from Metzenleitenlehen. Follow this path to the left and you will reach the Paulshütte mountain restaurant and the summit of the Kneifelspitze.

From its summit, the Grünstein offers almost the same view of the Berchtesgaden valley as the Watzmann, which is 1,400 m higher, but the hike to the Grünstein is much easier than a hike to the Watzmann. In about 1:30 hour you can hike to the top and enjoy the view: You can stop for a bite to eat just below the summit at the Grünsteinhütte.
From the Hammerstiel parking lot in Schönau, the hike goes through the forested ridge of the rocky flank at the foot of the Watzmann. Alternatively to the ascent from Hammerstiel, we recommend the hike from the ice bobsleigh and toboggan run at Königssee.
