Delicious Cakes, Tarts, and Desserts

Every day, Pastry Chef Susanne Otto, Birgit Naumann and Verena Stahl bake four to six different cakes and tarts fresh. In addition, they also prepare apple and quark strudels.

“We’re creative with our cakes, trying out different things to offer our guests a variety on the dessert plate. In spring, we focus on lighter cakes, often featuring meringue and fruits. Our hostess particularly loves the raspberry meringue cake,” Susanne laughs.

Variety for Every Taste:

Vegan and Gluten-Free Cakes in Berchtesgaden

In addition to classic options, the creative pastry team also offers vegan and gluten-free cakes. “The demand for these is growing,” Susanne says. That’s why she recently took a pastry course in Regensburg specializing in vegan treats. “I came back with many amazing professional recipes. Taste-wise, they’re just as good as the traditional cakes and tarts.

If you’re not visiting the hotel for cake but just for a cappuccino or a coffee, you’ll still get a little treat. Susanne, Birgit and Verena process up to 15 kg of dough a week for their homemade coffee cookies. These classic little cookies with chocolate chips accompany every coffee specialty.

Whether in the comfy lobby chairs or at the cozy tables in the pedestrian zone, everyone will find their favorite spot. The premium location, however, is the stunning rooftop terrace of the hotel. Here, you can enjoy a delightful selection of cakes daily from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM, paired with coffee specialties made from beans of the local roastery Baruli from Stein an der Traun.

A Classic: Sachertorte at Hotel EDELWEISS Berchtesgaden

No cake selection would be complete without a true classic, and the Sachertorte is a favorite among EDELWEISS guests. It’s available every day, freshly baked. Rich chocolate, cocoa, and apricot jam make this traditional Sachertorte simply irresistible.

Desserts and Truffles:

The Sweet Ending to a Perfect Day

As evening falls, Susanne and Verena prepare the dessert for the evening menu for hotel guests. The daily changing desserts are freshly and artistically plated
—after all, we eat with our eyes!

There’s still time for some homemade pralines, which can be ordered to the room or taken to go. With a steady hand, Susanne guides Verena, who at 19 has already completed her chef apprenticeship and is now transitioning into pastry. She loves the precise work with carefully selected ingredients.

Soon, with the help of another colleague, Verena will take on more responsibility in Susanne’s area, bringing joy to many guests who come for coffee and cake at Hotel EDELWEISS.
