Fresh momentum above the rooftops of Berchtesgaden and a sense of anticipation for the Hettegger family: on the sixth floor of Hotel EDELWEISS, a new restaurant is taking shape.
An entire floor is being reimagined with a new dining concept, a rooftop bar and a relaxed outdoor lounge, replacing the former PANORAMA Restaurant.
Construction began on January 7, 2026, with completion planned for the end of March.
“This will not be a minor renovation, but a complete transformation of the gastronomic area on the top floor of the hotel,” explains hotel director Christoph Schimpl.
“We are creating a place to feel at ease – contemporary, lively and open.” The new rooftop restaurant and bar is designed to become a relaxed meeting place for hotel guests and locals alike. A place to sit together informally, chat over a drink, enjoy small bites or meet friends and family for a shared meal.
Together with the renowned architectural firm Köck & Bachler from Tyrol, the Hettegger family has completely reimagined the entire area.
The space is being taken back to its core structure. Wood, light earthy tones and fresh materials will give the interior a sense of lightness and clarity. A large wine cabinet creates a striking focal point, while the kitchen team will benefit from a newly designed, highly functional workspace. From a culinary perspective, the restaurant is consciously taking a new direction: enjoyment throughout the day – from breakfast to lunch and into the evening. Carefully selected breakfast dishes offer the perfect start to the day, a small and clearly structured lunch selection is served at midday, and in the evening guests can enjoy high-quality regional and international cuisine. Snacks are available all day. Many dishes are designed for sharing – encouraging guests to sit together, order together and sample at their own pace.
The heart of the new restaurant is the spacious bar positioned directly by the panoramic window, offering spectacular views of the Watzmann. It sets the perfect scene for relaxed evenings with friends. Enjoy a sundowner, meet for a cocktail or a freshly poured beer – guests are welcome to stop by for a drink at any time, even without dining.
Easygoing and open to everyone.
The terrace will feature two distinct areas: a classic restaurant section with tables and chairs, and a lounge with comfortable benches, small tables and, above all, expansive views. Ideal for a spontaneous visit on a warm summer evening, it offers a
true holiday atmosphere for all.
The former pool bistro will also be redesigned in the same style as the new restaurant, creating additional space and a high level of flexibility for events. These may include summer barbecue evenings, wine-and-dine experiences throughout the year or smaller culinary formats that suit the new concept. There is no shortage of ideas.
During the renovation period, hotel operations will continue as usual. The à la carte restaurant Einkehr, the lobby bar and the spa area will remain open. The rooftop area is scheduled for completion at the end of March, and the Hettegger family is looking forward to bringing the new restaurant to life together with their guests from early April onward.
